NO TALKS ON NAME IF GREECE USES VETO

National.

Macedonia will withdraw from the talks on the name differences if Greece vetoes Macedonia's entry in NATO.

Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski said this today, commenting the recent statement of the Greek PM Costas Karamanlis that Athens will use the right to veto Macedonia's admission to NATO unless mutually acceptable solution on the name is found.

"If this statement is put into practice in the following period, it would mean that Greece is blatantly violating and even invalidating the Interim Agreement between the two countries. Consequently, it would mean that all obligations on the part of Macedonia are suspended, including the one for resumption of the negotiations on overcoming the differences on the name under UN auspice", President Crvenkovski said.

He gave the statement after meeting with the Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, who arrived in Macedonia for an official visit earlier today.

During the meeting, the interlocutors shared the opinion that there are no open issues between the two countries and that economic cooperation should be stepped up.

Macedonia and Montenegro's Presidents discussed also the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the states and the process of resolving of the Kosovo status.

MD: Greek elections are coming up soon so that's probably the main reason for the treathening.
