MEETING ON LAST KING OF ANCIENT MACEDONIA, PERSEUS

Culture.

A two-day scientific meeting, “Perseus – Last King of Antique Macedonia” was held at the weekend in Bitola in organization of the Macedonian Scientific Association, the Institute and Museum, and the Macedonian-Italian Friendship Association in Bitola. The meeting was opened and greeted by the President of the Organizational Board, Dimitar Kotevski and Bitola Mayor Vladimir Talevski.

Within the first session, the Director of the Directorate for Protection of Cultural Heritage and Macedonia’s distinguished archaeologist, Pasko Kuzman spoke on the solar symbols of peoples in the Samoil Fortress in Ohrid.
He referred to a number of findings from the Antique period in these areas. Kuzman emphasized that coins as well as golden, silver and bronze artifacts as well as swords, sears and other objects accentuating the connection of the Macedonians with the Sun have been found in the territory of Macedonia.

Distinguished experts of Macedonia and Italy read studies on the topic and a visit to the Heraklea Lynkestis site was organized.

Perseus was the son and heir of Philip V, and was known as a very gifted man with great political and military abilities. His grave is believed to be located near Magliano dei Marsi in the vicinity of Rome.

MD: That's great! The cooperation with Italy began after the tomb of King Perseus was found near Rome in 2005 when the Italians asked Macedonians to come instead of (usually) Greeks. About the Macedonian sun's found in Ohrid, Philip II of Macedonia probably had a fortress on the hill even before the Samoil fortress was erected, according to archaeological excavations by Pasko Kuzman
