Defense Minister Lazar Elenovski, who is paying an official visit to Canada, held Wednesday several meetings with the country's and NATO high officials, MIA's correspondent reported from Ottawa.
Elenovski had a meeting with Candian MP Lui Temelkovski, also attended by Albania's Defense Minister Fatmir Seidiu. discussing the cooperation of Adriatic Charter countries and Canada's support of their accession to NATO.
Canada, like Macedonia, is a multiethnic and multicultural society and therefor both countries have understanding for these principles, Elenovski said before the meeting and extended gratitude for the Canada's support of Macedonia's NATO membership, underlying the country's contribution to the peace mission in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He also thanked Canada for recognizing Macedonia's constitutional name.
Meidiu said that he and Elenovski often travelled together considering the common objective of Albania and Macedonia to join NATO.
- I know that we have a lot to do yet, but we are on the right track, Meidiu said, thanking Canada for the support of Macedonia and Albania on their road to NATO.
Canadian MP Roger Valley briefed the meeting about the recent establishment of Canadian-Macedonian Diplomatic Group of Friendship, saying that the relations between both countries have been developing on regular basis. The good relations have resulted in Canada's recognition of Macedonia's constitutional name, Temelkovski said.
Earlier today, Elenovski attended a working lunch, bringing together Mediu, the Macedonian, Albanian, Croatian, US Ambassador to Canada, military officials and diplomats. Elenovski will also address the Atlantic Treaty Association General Assembly and meet his Canadian counterpart Peter MacKay and Chairman of the Atlantic Council of Canada Bill Graham.
