CRVENKOVSKI CANCELS TRIP TO ATHENS
National.
Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski has cancelled his participation in a regional summit in Athens, as Greece banned Macedonian official plane to land in Athens, President Crvenkovski's Cabinet said.
"Such a move by authorities in Greece is not in line with the international regulations and principles and it certainly does not contribute to the development of good neighborly relations and the commitment to sharing the common European and democratic values," Macedonian president said.
Crvenkovski's Cabinet said the airliner landing ban coincides with Greece's ban on flights and landings of Macedonian private airliner MAT.
Macedonian president was notified by Greek Liaison Office in Skopje that the official plane is not allowed to land on Greek territory. The Greek Office suggested other types of transport, but President Crvenkovski refused them as unacceptable.
President Crvenkovski was to take part in the UN traditional forum n water resources management in South-East Europe, to be held in Athens next week.
Greek President Carolos Papoulias and the UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura, the co-organizer of the forum, extended an invitation to Macedonian President Crvenkovski. Nonetheless, Crvenkovski cancelled the scheduled trip due to circumstances beyond his control.
MD: Unbelievable! Another absurd action by the Greeks.
