Toni Maticevski is one of the most talked about names in Australian fashion. With his signature manipulation of traditional fashion silhouettes and use of beautiful materials, the range marks a desirable departure from conventional couture.

His gown was worn by former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins. In 2003 he won the prestigious $10,000 Melbourne Fashion Festival Tiffany Designer Award prize. The recognition has provided this talented 30-year-old Footscray local with invaluable professional and business opportunities.

Maticevski believes that he has always been destined for a career in fashion design. 'I've been doing it since I was a little kid - sketching, mucking around with material.' He remembers that when he was 12 he realised that what he loved doing for fun could be a real profession.

He then took it upon himself to learn to sew (with help from his mother), and has spent most of his life with needle and thread ever since. In 1997 Maticevski completed his Bachelor of Arts in Fashion and headed off to New York to work for Donna Karan - a work experience placement that was another a prize for the 1st class honours student. Maticevski's obvious talent led to him being offered the opportunity to stay on with the US fashion label. In a move that shocked some, he declined, in favour of launching his own label.

For the next five years Maticevski put his all into bringing his vision of self-described 'melancholy, classic edge' evening wear to life. Maticevski's designs have received attention here and overseas, pushing his business to new heights. He's become a household name as his outfits are sold at leading Australian department stores Myer and David Jones. And in recent times make a success in NY.
