ADIDAS WITHDRAWS SPONSORSHIP OF GUMBALL 3000
National.
Adidas has withdrawn sponsorship from the pan-European Gumball 3000 rally following the deaths of a local Macedonian couple who were victims of a crash with a rally car, taking part in the race.
"It is with great shock and regret that Adidas learned about the tragic incident that occurred during a stage of this year's Gumball 3000 rally. Our thoughts at this moment are with the victims and with their family and friends to whom we extend our sincere condolences. As a result of this terrible occurrence, Adidas has decided to completely withdraw its involvement and endorsement of the rally with immediate effect," said the spokesman for Adidas.
Maximillion Cooper, founder of Gumball rally was caught by surprise at the move, saying "Adidas were obviously aware of the potential risks of aligning themselves with the Gumball brand as there is always the chance that there could be an incident as in this year."
MD: Well, this was also probably the last Gumball 3000 at least in Europe. Adidas was sponsoring rapper, Xzibit and Jay Kay who participated in the rally this year.
