'DUST' PRESENTED AT KINSHASA FESTIVAL AND 'BEFORE THE RAIN' IN TALINN
Culture.
The most successful of Macedonian directors, and since recently, the Ambassador of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia Milcho Manchevski’s “Dust,” will be shown at the Film Festival in Kinshasa, Congo on 25th June. A curiosity is that the film coming from South East Europe is being screened in Africa since we can be said to be an unknown culture to Africa.
This is the second screening of Manchevski’s films on this continent. His film “Before the Rain,” Macedonia’s most successful export, was distributed in the South African Republic cinema network in 1996 and was shown on TV and through video presentations in the next several years.
Additionally, screening of “Before the Rain” was organized at the EU Culture and Information Centre in Tallinn, in organization of the Macedonian diplomatic mission in Estonia last month.
Although widely distributed on all continents and in more than 60 countries, this is the first screening of “Before the Rain” in the Baltic and at the same time, the first ever screening of a Macedonian film and Macedonian in these areas. The screening was attended by diplomats, students and other film admirers, and everybody was delighted with it. "This master-piece presents our country and culture we come from in a marvellous manner," Nenad Kolev, Macedonian diplomatic representative in Estonia said. “Thank you for enabling us to feel proud of being Macedonians,” he told Manchevski. A receipt with presentation of Manchevski’s work and our country and history was held after the screening.
MD: And Manchevski's international presentation keeps going on!
