"MACEDONIA WILL NOT BE THE FIRST TO RECOGNIZE KOSOVO"
National.
'The Republic of Macedonia is not going to be the first country that will recognize Kosovo independence, having no intention to prejudice the European Union, NATO decision but to follow their policy', President Branko Crvenkovski said Saturday in Skopje after meeting Kosovo President, Fatmir Sejdiu.
Macedonia is Kosovo neighbour and therefore rather interested in "how the process will develop and how to come to a solution that will guarantee lasting stability in the region."'
At the meeting, Crvenkovski reaffirmed Macedonia's position on the Kosovo issue, i.e. the country has supported Martti Ahtisaari blueprint, as well as the new round of Belgrade-Pristina negations under the Trojka.
To a question what will happen in case of no consensus between the two organizations, Crvenkovski said it would become a serious problem for the Union.
If, after accepting the new treaty, which should set the basis for building the Union's common foreign and security policy, the EU fails to present unanimous position on one of the key issues - and Kosovo is such issue not only for Europe but for the wider region -then it will be a serious problem. I believe that EU, for its own sake and for the sake of the problem's seriousness, will present its unanimous position very soon, Crvenkovski said.
It is rather important to resolve this last opened issue in the region, Sejdiu said, expressing belief that it would happen real soon.
MD: The ultimatum is set on the 10th of December. Kosovo Albanians only want independence. Serbia stated they would do anything they can to prevent independency. Many people think this will be another conflict in the region.
