CHURCH ICONS SEIZED
National.
Macedonian customs officers confiscated 183 undeclared church icons at the Greek border, in inspection of a lorry driven by a Serbian citizen.
The confiscation took place at the Bogorodica border-crossing last Saturday, Customs Administration announced.
While scanning the lorry, customs officers detected six packages in the lorry's cabin, which were not declared by the driver. After examining the packages, the officers found 183 icons in them.
The icons, originating from Greece, were intended to be placed at the Serbian market.
The driver of the lorry was fined 4,500 euros, while the undeclared icons were confiscated as subject of a customs offense.
