NATO UNCERTAINTY HURTS MACEDONIAN ECONOMY

National.

If Macedonia fails to get an invitation to join NATO at the alliance's forthcoming summit because of a Greek veto, the country's already weak economy will suffer greatly, local economists argue.

Investors in the country will be more reluctant, the stock market index would continue to fall and the solvency of the market would decrease, local economists claim.

“We are entering a time with many uncertainties and all of the factors and expectations that were optimistic could stagnate,” economy expert and university professor, Abdulmenaf Bexheti told local A1 TV on Wednesday.

Blagoja Spirkovski, an economy expert from Skopje University argues that Macedonia, as a small country with a fragile economy has no alternative to its NATO and European Union perspective.

“Either it will be a dark zone, or it will enter global integration and adjust its economy accordingly,” Spirkovski told media.

Macedonia’s foreign trade deficit reached around $180 million in January, nearly 45% more than the same month last year, the State Statistical Office announced in early March.

The country is already tackling increasing annual inflation that reached more than 9% in January.

Despite the increase in foreign investment in the first two months of 2008, the country remains behind its neighbours and continues to experience severe unemployment which stands at a staggering 35%.

MD: The name of your country, identity is more important in this matter, let's hope our government sticks to that position.

As a Macedonian (Greek of course!), I have to say that offending others mothers or anything is not a behaviour of a Greek!
Be careful how you behaviour!
Greeks are people who gave Culture and Knowledge to the whole world, accepting differences and being friendly to all who didn;t try to invade or falsificate their History. A great Greek, Alexander brought the Greek culture and Spirit to the whole known world, respecting the traditions and religions!
This is the greatness of Greeks!

You may like it or not, you need to enter the NATO ... at least if you want a brighter future for everyone in the country. Main investment problem is linked to instability risk (risk rating of MK is today very high), NATO is a security warranty for many investors. In addition, it will also seal the borders and put Albaneese secessionists totally aside. You give on one hand, you'll receive on the other.

Dear Ones, I was born in Skopia in 1981 and since I live here in Macedonia, although I never before 1992 heard anything about a Macedonian language or Macedonian culture. I always new that our language is Slavobulgarian and our culture is a divided between the different nationalities that live in Macedonia.
I grew up knowing that we are Slavs, Bulgarians and Albanians.
What changed after 1992 and we became so arrogant and irrationalists? I am so sad about what is happening in our country!
We have our culture and our nation, that we all know that is New and also that we don't have any connection with Ancient Macedonia.
What happened now?
Our dignity is to be US! Not somebody ELSE!
