TOP JAZZ NAMES AT 28TH SKOPJE FESTIVAL

Legendary pianist Chick Corea, accompanied by bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White will crown the 28th Skopje Jazz Festival, which will be held on October 22-26.
The festival begins with the promotion of “Amam”, album of Macedonian-Italian trio “Skopje Connection”, which includes Georgi Sareski, Dzijan Emin and Italian jazz star Luca Aquino on October 22.
German pianist Aki Takase and the band of popular jazz percussionist Marilyn Mazur will perform within “Women in Jazz” evening on October 23.
The third festival evening (October 24) includes two great names of modern US jazz – saxophonist James Carter and his quintet, as well as the trio of pianist Brad Mehldau.
October 25 program is dedicated to the 40th birthday of cult jazz label “ECM” with two special concerts. The first is by unique Norwegian duo Arve Henriksen and Jan Bang, while the second of renowned trumpeter and jazz-innovator John Hassell and his project “Maarifa Street”.
Besides the regular program, the Skopje Jazz festival also offers exciting midnight performances in club “Hard Rock” by several contemporary jazz names. These are new American jazz-hip-hop-soul star Jose James, Brazilian guitarist Chico Pinheiro, as well as the quartet of Italian saxophonist Michele Polga.
