'A NAME IS A NAME' PREMIERE

Diaspora.

A unique film bringing together personalities from Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Macedonia will have its Washington, D.C. premiere on Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Jewish Community Center in downtown Washington.

The film - A Name is a Name - is directed by Icelander Sigurjon Einarsson, produced by American Jason Miko, narrated by Brit Sir Andrew Motion (until May the UK's Poet Laureate for 10 years), and features music by Morten Harket, lead singer of Norwegian rock group a-ha, Icelandic bands Sigur Ros, mum and Earth Affair, Brit Graham Nash, California band Monte Negro, and Macedonians Kiril Dzajkovski and the late Tose Proeski. Macedonian production house fx3x provided the production team, equipment and facilities to create the film.

At its heart, the film is about the Macedonian people and their desire to have their name and identity recognized. The 48 minute documentary takes viewers through the Republic of Macedonia through the eyes of a Scandinavian traveler who speaks with Macedonians from various backgrounds who tell the traveler what it means for them to be Macedonians. The film's title - A Name is a Name - is a song from Morten's solo album, Letter from Egypt, released in 2008.

The film is being sponsored by the United Macedonian Diaspora and will be premiered at the Jewish Community Center, 1529 16th Street, NW in Washington, D.C. at 7:00 pm on Monday, February 1.

For more information, visit the website of UMD at www.umdiaspora.org and for more information on the film visit www.anameisaname.com. Both the director, Sigurjon Einarsson, and the producer, Jason Miko, will be on hand for a question and answer period after the film.

Mike Rann: “Macedonia is Greek! South Australian premier Mike Rann has sparked an international diplomatic furore by accusing the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) of stealing Greek culture and its leader, Gjorge Ivanov, of “stirring up trouble in the most dangerous way”. He made the comments in a speech at the Dimitria Greek festival in Adelaide.

In the speech, Rann affirmed his commitment to Adelaide's Greek voters and promised his government would "remain firm and unswerving in our support for your cause. It is important because no one is entitled to steal another nation's history or culture," Rann said.

Earlier this week, Rann said he would not be "silenced or muzzled" and would "continue to speak out on issues I believe in".

Mike Rann, the South Australian Premier, who was caught having an affair with a barmaid? What the hell does this idiot know about Macedonia and the Macedonians. He is obviously trying to win votes in the next election and cannot be taken seriously. However, I believe he will be taken to court by the Macedonian community over the racist remarks he made towards The Republic of Macedonia and the Macedonian President. See you in court you racist prick!

Long live Macedonia and the Macedonians

I AM AN INDIGENOUS ETHNIC AND CULTURAL MACEDONIAN! I WAS, AM AND ALWAYS BE GREEK!
I ALWAYS SPOKE AND I AM STILL SPEAKING THE MACEDONIAN SPOKEN AND WRITTEN LANGUAGE: GREEK!

My confused friend, if you were Macedonian then you wouldn't call yourself greek. This northern region of greece didn't exist before 1913. Check your facts, because your statements are full of flaws that can be picked apart by a 2 year old. My intelligence tells me that you are either a grkoman, or a turkish christian whose ancestors were transplanted from anatolia to Macedonia after the partition of Macedonia in 1913.

Long live Macedonia and the Macedonians.

Mike Rann is a racist man who has been paid by Greek's in SA who are voting for him in the next election... Australia has a large Greek and Italian population . Macedonia needs to gets it people in Australia more involved in the Australian community. Education is important. Most Australians know more about Greeks and Italians and very little about Macedonians.....
..
