EU PLANS TO INVEST IN MACEDONIA
National.
The EU will increase funds for Macedonia's development, a high-ranking official of the EU Mission to Skopje said Wednesday.
At the panel discussion staged in the frameworks of the series "Municipalities and Local Communities in the Process of Integration to EU" that took place Wednesday in Kumanovo, EU Mission to Skopje official Patrick Paquet said that the European Development Fund would provide resources for development of the Macedonia's banking sector, Makfax's correspondent reported.
As to the EU visa regime, Paquet said that the Union is in the process of establishing new facilitation procedures with final aim of full liberalization of the visa regime in the following years.
Macedonian Minister of Local Self-Governance, Zoran Konjanovski, unveiled a new decentralization program due to set out in early July. According to him, EU's interest is focused on regional projects that would speed up Macedonia's development.
Minister Konjanovski described the equal development of municipalities as one of the two most important projects of the Macedonian government.
This project envisages balanced development of all municipalities, unlike the previous practice of putting Skopje's municipalities in privileged position when it came to capital investments.
