MACEDONIANS SPEND LITTLE MONEY ON FOOD
National.
The average Macedonian citizen spends $409 on food per year, which is at the very bottom comparing to other countries in the region.
According to a survey on food spending, published in Vecernje Novosti daily, Hungary tops the list of region's countries with highest annual per capita spending on food. An average Hungarian citizen spends %2.012. Croatians are next ($1.686), followed by Slovenians ($1.550), Bosnians ($1.525), Romanians ($1,364), Montenegrins ($943), Bulgarians ($791) and Serbs ($675).
Macedonians also are at the bottom of a list as regards the non-alcoholic beverage expenditures. The annual per capita spending on non-alcoholic beverages in Macedonia is put at $12. Hungarians again top the list with $227.
Macedonia also is at the bottom as to the expenditures on personal hygiene. Namely, Macedonians spend $20, whilst Hungarians' expenditures for cosmetic products total $103.
The average Macedonian, on the other hand, is in the middle of the list as regards the money spent for tobacco/cigarettes. Namely, Macedonians "smoke" $146 per year. Slovenians top the list with $423 mainly because of the high price of cigarettes in Slovenia. Bosnians spend much less on cigarettes - $21.
According to statistical data, the Montenegrins often change their cars. Namely, each 17th citizen buys car in one-year span.
Macedonia is in the middle of the list on expenditures for motor vehicles. According to the number of sold vehicles in Macedonia last year, each 97th citizen registered a new vehicle. Romania (188) and Bulgaria (192) are at the bottom as regards car spending.
MD: Food is in general (luckily) still very cheap in Macedonia, but that will probably change in the upcoming years.
