INTENSIFIED ARCHEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS IN STRUMICA REGION
Culture.
The Strumica-based Office for Monument Protection resumes the excavations and restaurations on several sites and objects across the Strumica region. Recently, due to the forthcoming renovation of the medieval fortress Carevi Kuli (The Tzar's Towers) nearby Strumica, the excavations of this historical complex were intensified (due in October or November, depending on the weather conditions).
- Meanwhile, our expert teams resumed the restaurations of the Rimska Terma (Roman Baths) site, one of the few well-preserved monuments of its kind in Europe. A unique mosaic, dating back to late third or early forth century AD, was unearthed at this site. The mosaic's residues only confirm the paramount cultural importance of the Roman Baths, which is one of a kind in the Balkans, said Office's director Slavica Taseva.
The genuine appearance of the Roman Baths will be determined with the finalisation of the years-long restaurations.
