MACEDONIAN MORMON JAILED FOR SPARTAN BEHAVIOUR
Diaspora.
A pair of Mormon churchgoers have been sent to prison for punishing and harassing children. Maria Keable (pictured right) and Deirdre Carrington(left) were each sentenced to 19 months in jail at Canterbury Crown Court for their nine-year reign of terror over six children. They carried out the offences between January 1997 and January last year.
They forced them to eat tablespoons of chilli powder, raw eggs, and stung them with nettles for failing to carry out a strict regime of chores. The children - who were all aged under 16 - were also hit with wooden rolling pins and punched and kicked.
Judge Timothy Nash said: "The sort of conduct you displayed to these children was reminiscent of Victorian times in this country and indeed, in certain religious spheres, was reminiscent of the 1950s." "This was a case of sustained cruelty that some would say bordered on torture with sadistic elemtents", he added.
"You were undoubtedly, Maria, obsessed with punishment. You behaved like a hospital matron of the 19th century, bullying the children in an unforgivable way." he said to the Macedonian woman.
The pair were found guilty of six child cruelty offences and one assault charge at Canterbury Crown Court last month.
Keable, a 60-year-old Macedonian of Ramsgate, said her motives were "Christian" and claimed that such practices are very normal in Macedonia(!)
Judge Nash told her: "It's no good you saying 'this is what we did in Macedonia'. You have been over here for 40 years, you know how we live over here and that's what makes your part in this so wrong."
The pair met at a Mormon temple in London 10 years ago. They also attended Mormon churches in Deal and Canterbury in Kent.
MD: Something normal in Macedonia? Hell no!! Maybe it was 200 years ago.
