GRUEVSKI VISITS ORPHAN'S HOME

National.

Fifty out of 102 social apartments constructed by the Government will be intended for the orphans who have left 11 October orphanage in the last five years. Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who paid a visit to the orphan's home on Sunday, said the decision is due to be adopted at Tuesday's Government session.

The construction of the apartments started four months ago and the PM said it is expected to be finalised in late 2008 or early 2009. Speaking to the media, Gruevski said the Government approved additional assistance in amount of Euro 30,000 for the orphanage, same as last year, adding it would resume practicing it in the future. The funds will be used for overhaul of the orphanage, children's pocket money and other necessities.

Fresh Government measure will kick off as of Jan. 1 which will foresee significant increase of the severance pay for each child who'll leave the orphanage - from the current amount of two Macedonian average salaries to Euro 3,000.

- I believe that 18,000 or 30,000 denars is a very small amount since the children are facing with great problems in order to survive. The 3,000 euros will enable them to find their way in a new world at least during the first year, because here they are within a different world. They will need a time to adjust out there, stated Gruevski.

During the meeting with institution's director, they discussed the possibility of expanding the number of children who would enroll at universities because "high education will provide them with bigger chances for employment and greater profits".

He said he had been visiting the orphanage for several years and had been helping as much as possible. During his term as finance minister, Gruevski employed 12 orphanages from the institute and submitted motions for additional funds.

- I visit the orphanage once in a while and I'll keep on doing it in the future. As long as I have the opportunity I'll help as a prime minister, as a human being, as a Government and as a party, Gruevski said.

I feel that what Gospodin Gruevski is doing for these orphans is a great way to help start a new phase of their lives.
However, I feel that if he would help the young orphans to be adopted at a young age that this problem would not be as severe in Macedonia today. I feel that an adoption agency should be established and the adoption process needs to be simplified.

My husband and myself are Macedonians and have been waiting over 4 yrs to adopt from Macedonia. The Social service has never given us a number or has told us any kind of time frame for adoption. In Dec.2006 they said we were 4th in line to adopt. In Nov 2007 they said they were processing for the year 2000. So, we wait as we are aging. We are a wonderful couple who have tried for 13 years to start a family. We have so much love and support to give to a child. Instead, the children sit in the orphanage in Bitola and us alone at home.
I would love to see Gospodin Gruevski's continued support to these orphans and hopefully to take action at my request to help all orphans as well as the couples who are waiting to give them a loving home.
I speak on our behalf and the behalf of all couples in Macedonia waiting to adopt.
Fala mnogu sto sakati da go slusnite nasiot glas!

Thank you very much for your reaction! And for sharing your thoughts and experience. We wish you all the best with the adoption process!
