"LIFE BEGAN IN SOUTH-EAST EUROPE"

National.

Macedonia and Bulgaria will sign an agreement in November, according to which the area near Delcevo villages Stamer and Zvegor up to the Bulgarian border will be declared a trans-border park of fossils, following the recent excavation of animal remains, dating from 3-6 million years.

“We suppose that if remains from prehistoric animals are found up to the border, sites could also be located in Bulgaria too”, says Museum of Natural Science custodian Svetozar Petkovski.

In only one week at the beginning of October, fossils of a giraffe and an elephant were found near villages Stamer and Zvegor. Retired paleontologist Risto Garevski dated the fossils, while his findings were confirmed by French and Bulgarian paleontologists. Excavations will resume sometime in May next year.
