LIMITED SALE OF ALCOHOL
National.
Alcoholic drinks in Macedonia in the future will be sold only in licensed stores and in the period between 06-19 hours.
As explained by Government spokesman Ivica Bocevski, liquor will be sold only by registered sellers in retail buildings, with license granted for that purpose, which will cost 5.000 Denars for five years' time.
At the same time, sale of alcoholic drinks on gas stations, grocery markets and newspaper booths is prohibited.
These restrictions on selling alcoholic drinks pertain to stores and super-markets, and serving drinks in restaurants and bars remains under the regular regime, Bocevski explained.
He pointed out that every merchant that wishes to sell alcohol will have to obtain license, which will be issued by the Ministry of Economy.
This law is expected to prevent abuse of the alcohol sale, which we saw in the recent period, but also to influence youth to go visit theatres instead of buying beer in the evening hours, Bocevski said.
The law will enter into force after the voting in the Parliament.
MD: We don't really think this measure is going to get the youth in the theatres, on the contrary :)

Can't understand that politic. This is a big paradox here in Mk compared to other northern countries. People here drink less then anywhere else ! Why all this measures to close the bars at 12, clubs at 3, strictly control the selling of it ??? Theater !!? This is ridiculous. They will ALL WATCH TV instead and this is the most stupid thing to do. I find unbelievable you can't have beer (or even a Coke !)at 2 AM in the capital of a country. IMHO, this is a real personal liberty restriction. Can someone tell me where does this puritanism come from ?
