RICE: MACEDONIA NOT TO BE BLAMED
National.
Macedonia and its people are not responsible for the country's failure to receive an invitation to join NATO, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told media in Bucharest late on Thursday.
Rice said she hoped that Macedonia would join the Alliance “as soon as possible” and she stressed that all the NATO members meeting at the Bucharest summit had agreed that the country has met the membership criteria.
“Macedonia is in fact invited to join the Alliance as soon as the 'name' issue is resolved,” Rice said.
Skopje's bid failed because of Greek opposition, despite the fact that all the other member countries agreed that Macedonia had met all of NATO’s requirements.
Greece exercised its veto because it objects to the name Republic of Macedonia, which Athens believes may imply a claim to the northern Greek province of the same name.
Rice told reporters that the US and other countries pressed for Macedonia’s invitation at the summit but that their freedom of action was constrained by the fact that NATO functions on the nbasis of consensus.
Croatia and Albania, however, got the green light to join the Alliance.
On Thursday NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer announced that Macedonia's bid to join the Alliance had been unsuccessful. Immediately afterwards, the country’s leaders, together with many Macedonian journalists, left the summit early in a sign of protest.
“We have been punished because of who we are and not because of what we have done,” Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski told reporters on Thursday.
MD: The USA is backing us, while some NATO officials anounced yesterday that Macedonia has itself to blame, because of "lack of cooperation".

Obama is coming, and his opinion about the Issue is well known, after he has sign about Greece's right position!

I have seen this post many times. Why don’t you comment on the article and you only repeating the same (and boring) things?
In my opinion, Obama or Hilary or Bush are all the same. They only care about their success and American interests. They don’t give a shit about Greece, “Macedonia” or any other country.
Now, their interest is to take some advantage in the area. So they think it’s better to support “Macedonia”. In the past they wanted things from us.

We must tell the people what legal commitment we took by signing the Interim Accord in 1995. We committed to seek a mutual agreed name with Greece. That's it -- no more, nor less. By accepting this international treaty we accept that the constitutional name "Republic of Macedonia" is going to be changed when we mutually agree in a new name. This is the true that the politicians are hiding from the people because they don't want to take the political responsibility for signing the 1995 Treaty. To be fair: the signing was a much-needed compromise back in the early '90 when the very existence of the state was at stake. It was a brave political decision, a great leap to the future, which normalized relations with Greece, enabled the participation in UN and opened up the process to join NATO and E.U. But the signing of this treaty means that we took legal obligations - so maybe the politicians did wrong by the 1995, maybe we don’t like to change the constitutional name, but the it is true that the country legally commits itself to find a mutual accepted solution with Greece which is definitely different with the current state name. If the political leadership, which signed the 1995 Treaty was more brave not to leave this legal obligation for future political leader, now there will be no problem at all. Let's say the true to people and move to the future.

"Slav" redirects here. For the former Israeli settlement, see Slav (settlement).
The Slavic peoples are a linguistic and ethnic branch of Indo-European peoples, living mainly in Europe, where they constitute roughly a third of the population. Since emerging from their original homeland (most commonly thought to be in Eastern Europe) in the early 6th century, they have inhabited most of eastern Central Europe, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. [1] Many settled later in Siberia[2] and Central Asia[3] or emigrated to other parts of the world.[4][5]
Slavic settlers mixed with existing local populations and later invaders, thus modern Slavic peoples are considerably genetically and culturally diverse. Yet they are connected by speaking often closely related Slavic languages, and also by a sense of common identity and history, which is present to different extents among different individuals and different Slavic peoples.

Two little words. With these two ancient Greek words
When Leonidas was preparing to make his stand, a Persian envoy arrived. The envoy attempted to convince Leonidas of the futility of trying to resist the advance of the huge Persian army and demanded that the Spartans lay down their arms.
"Our archers are so numerous,"said the envoy, "that the flight of their arrows darkens the sun."
"So much the better,"replied Dienekes, a Spartan warrior, "for we shall fight them in the shade."
Leonidas shouted back: "MOLON LABE!" (pronounced mo-lone lah-veh), which means "Come and Get Them!"

Fact is that Greece is in a better position, already in NATO and EU. And fact is that MK is too proud. US help as long as you send soldiers. EU donated so much, but obviously waste of money. Serbia will most-probably be an EU member than MK. And Albania as well. MK is trying the best to become the loser of Europe. What a pity.

We don't know why some are commenting in Greek, it really doesn't make sense. Anyway, we encourage discussions and Greeks are more than welcome to join. But please watch the language, do not curse, or hate speech, wether you are Macedonian or Greek, that does not matter.
Thank you in advance, and for visiting MD.

I am a Macedonian! Macedonia EXISTS! The Macedonian language EXISTS! Macedonian history EXISTS! Macedonian people EXIST! The country EXISTS!
It is hypocritical, narrow-minded, history-manipulating Greeks that want to make themselves believe otherwise and lay claim to a Macedonian history full of power and wealth. That is, the Empire of King Phillip of Macedon and his successor, his son, born of Macedonian Blood, King Alexander the Great!
The demise and collapse of this Empire was due to Greek infiltration and manipulation of the heir of King Alexander the Great of Macedon. Prior to this, the Macedonians respected the Greeks and gave them their identity for what it was worth. To my fellow Macedonians, hindsight is a wonderful thing, and i am sure that if King Phillip or King Alexander knew then what we know today, I am certain that either King Phillip of King Alexander would have wiped away the shear existence of any person who referred to themselves as a Greek.
History also tells that dialects were created by manipulation of other dialects, so for true historians, the Balkan dialects were created from the Macedonian language, this included the Yugoslav dialect, the surrounding Balkan dialects including Bulgarian, Albanian, and even the Greek dialect.
History - King Phillip of Macedon and King Alexander the Great of Macedon lead an army of Macedonians and built an Empire of Macedonians!!!
So for all those Greeks who are in denial of the history books and the endless pages that record the TRUTH, crawl back under the rock from which you came from as it is evident that your thoughts and comments are biased, fact less, and down right ludicrous!
To my fellow Macedonians, the Greek government is fearful of the Republic of Macedonia being recognised by auspices such as NATO, the UN and the EU as the Republic of Macedonia. The simple fact being that we will regain the region surrounding Solun and Egeska Makedonija!
Finally, the Macedonian Government has demonstrated it has the strength and courage to face this issue and not "sell" itself as did the Government in power under Kiro Gligorov who was manipulated and bribed on the issue of our national flag!!!
