Macedonian women's handball team defeated Belarus national team 29:24 on Thursday to secure 7th place.
Macedonian handball players dominated the terrain throughout the match, driven by chants of about 6.000 enthusiastic spectators at Boris Trajkovski hall in Skopje.
Built on a string defense and goalkeeper performance, the host pushed ahead goal by goal. One counter attack after another at the Belarus goal and Macedonia extended the lead from 9:8 to 16:11 in ten minutes. After 30 minutes, the gap was still five goals with the score 17:12.
Macedonia fought for every ball. It took five minutes after the break, before the host was in front with six goals. The host kept strong and increased the lead to 24:16 and decided the match in the 46th minute.
Twelve minutes before the end the spectators rose from their seats and celebrated their team’s performance, that kept the distance to more than six or seven goals in a tough match.
In the final stage of the game the hosts had the greater reserves than Belarus and scored some very impressive goals especially from the wing positions.
Germany, Russia, Norway and Spain will compete this weekend to win the title of European women's handball champion.
