St. Zlata Meglenska Female Choir under the baton of Letka Dimovska-Polizova took part in the St. Luis International Choir Festival, United States. In tight competition where eventually only choirs from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Congo, Philippines and Macedonia remained, St. Zlata Meglenska won the first prize in the free choice category and the third prize in the folklore category. The festival took place between 25 and 29 June and the visit was supported by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture.
“These awards have special significance not only for the history of our choir but for Macedonia in general,” conductor Dimovska-Polizova said in a press conference yesterday. She stated that the choir presented Macedonia at its best and was welcomed with ovations by the audience. They performed only compositions by Macedonian composers Todor Skalovski, Zapro Zaprov, Dragan Suplevski and Aleksandar Lekovski.
