TRIAL RESUMES ON MAY 7

National.

The trial of Boskoski and Tarculovski will begin on Monday with opening statements, and it will resume on May 7 as most of evidence material has not been prepared yet.

The pre-trial conference in the Ljube Boskoski and Johan Tarculovski case took place yesterday in the Courtroom 3. The cross-examination of witnesses in the case against Ljube Boskoski, Macedonia's former interior minister, and Johan Tarculovski, a former police official, is likely to run 11 weeks, a tribunal's prosecutor told the Trial Chamber.

The cross-examination of witnesses will be facilitated with a new mode of sublimation of testimonies to avoid repeat of statements. A total of 96 prosecution witnesses are expected to testify, among them 92 will take a stand and be cross-examined, whilst the others will submit written testimony.

The prosecution said it will submit additional evidence to supplement the existing data and it will notify the defense two days before a witness takes a stand. The prosecutor offered a video footage to back up the evidence. The witnesses can click on a display and point out the site where the alleged crime took place.

Electronic maps featuring various sites surrounding the village of Ljuboten were also shown at yesterday's pre-trial conference. The prosecution and the defense are to notify the Trial Chamber about their activities in the course of the trial.

Boskoski and Tarculovski are indicted with violations of the law or customs of war in connection with Ljuboten case. Buckovski is charged with command responsibility for the police action, in which seven residents of the village of Ljuboten had been killed.

The defense will insist on exact definition of events in Macedonia in 2001, i.e. to establish whether it was a war or something else.

MD: Let's hope the trial will end soon
