"I AM FROM TITOV VELES" AT TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL
Culture.
Teona Mitevska’s film “I am from Titov Veles” will be projected in the official competition at the Toronto Film Festival, which will be held on September 6-15. Along with 13 other films, it will be presented within program “Discovery”.
Together with “Shadows” of Milco Mancevski, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto festival, this is the second Macedonian film presented at the largest film festival on the American continent.
Mitevska’s film was recently rewarded with a special award at the Sarajevo Film Festival, by a jury presided by renowned British actor Jeremy Irons.
The story focuses on three sisters living in the chaos of post-socialist transition. They are trying to survive, although they are not quite ready for the cruel reality that awaits. Slavica, the oldest sister, has been receiving methadone therapy for nine years. She is in a desperate need for a husband, who would drag her out of the misery. Safo is pragmatic, ready to do everything in order to reach the goal, while Afrodita has the least time for herself. The story is seen through her eyes.
Labina Mitevska plays the leading role, along with Ana Kostovska, Nikolina Kujaca, Petar Musevski, Xhevdet Jasari and Jovica Mihajlovski. Virgine Sen Martin from Belgium is the cinematographer.
