MACEDONIAN TOP CONSULTATE OVER NAME
National.
Macedonian top officials met Monday to outline a strategy on further talks on name differences with Greece, after UN mediator Matthew Nimitz suggested a change of constitutional name in international communication.
The consultations on the country's strategy bringed together President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and Foreign Minister Antonio Miloshoski.
On Sunday, PM Gruevski convoked a meeting of government allies. After the meeting, DPA leader Menduh Thaci said Macedonia would not sacrifice its constitutional name to enter the European Union and NATO.
"The accession into EU and NATO is the country's top priority, but we are not ready for compromise that will undermine the foundations of the state," Thaci said.
Opposition SDSM leader Radmila Sekerinska voiced a full support to preservation of the constitutional name in the talks with Greece, noting that the opposition will be "constructive, amicable and statehood partner.
