NIMITZ WITH FRAMEWORK OF NEW PROPOSALS ON DISPUTE TO ATHENS AND SKOPJE
National.
The UN mediator Matthew Nimetz came forward with a framework of new proposals to be reviewed by Skopje and Athens at today's round of negotiations over the name differences between Macedonia and Greece.
At today's meeting in New York with the Macedonian and Greek negotiations Nikola Dimitrov and Adamantios Vassilakis, Nimetz did not offer "a concrete proposal on the name," said BBC's Macedonian-language programme.
"I offered for reviewing some proposals in a form of a draft-framework to serve as a basis for a fair and just solution. I asked both Ambassadors to convey these proposals to their Governments," Nimetz said.
He expressed readiness to pay visits to Athens and Skopje soon "in order to step up the consultations with both Governments," declining to reveal any specifics of his new ideas.
Ambassador Dimitrov told BBC that mediator Nimetz offered a sort of a structure frame for the upcoming meetings.
"The only news is that the mediator gave certain suggestions that included no specific proposal or a concrete name. He spelled out however his view on the structure framework that would enable us to move forward with negotiations and eventually come to a solution, i.e. he suggested some elements of the eventual solution. Some of those elements are compatible with our position, and some are not," Dimitrov said.
