BITOLA - NEW CITY OF CULTURE

Culture.

According to “Dnevnik” sources, Bitola will be the new carrier of manifestation “City of Culture”, taking over from Prilep, which marked 2007 with about 120 events.

The Ministry of Culture has reviewed all applications and is scheduled to officially announce the city with most cultural events in 2008 in the next few days.

Evgenija Bektes-Josifovska of the culture sector within the city administration believes that Bitola deserves to be the cultural capital, because cultural events are held almost on a daily basis in the city institutions.

“We host many international festivals, concerts of different music are held every day, there is a successful theatre in the city, as well as the international cinematographers film festival ‘Manaki Brothers’, festival of classical music ‘Interfest’, children’s festival ‘Small Bitola Monmartre’, festival of amateur films ‘Camera 300’ etc”, said Bektes-Josifovska.

Radovis and Kicevo also sent their applications for the manifestation, which idea is to create conditions for access to cultural values and their wider use, as well as revival of culture at a local level.
