PAPANDREOU INDIRECTLY SUPPORTS MACEDONIA
National.
PASOK's leader Yorgos Papandreou supports indirectly the stances advocating the use of Macedonia's constitutional name and the need for Greece's care for the Macedonian minority in the country.
In his personal web page, Papandreou recommends Grigoris Vallianatos' book "Akatallilo" ("Inappropriate"), in which the author suggests that Greece, instead of trying to change Macedonia's name, should recognize the country with its constitutional name and at the same time come to terms with the Macedonian ethnic minority inside its territory.
A few days ago, Papandreou sacked Grigoris Vallianatos from PASOK for his stances on the Greece's policy toward Macedonia.
The reason given was that Vallianatos criticized publicly, on Extra Channel's TV news, Greece's stance towards its Macedonian minority and the Republic of Macedonia, EUROLANG agency reported.
Answering a related question, Vallianatos suggested that Greece, instead of trying to change Macedonia's name, should recognize the country with its constitutional name and at the same time come to terms with the Macedonian ethnic minority inside its territory.
He added that he was expressing a solely personal opinion, which did not coincide with PASOK's official position on these issues.
Although Vallianatos' stances are contained in the book recommended by Papandreou, he was dismissed from the party.
"After these statements regarding foreign policy issues, ....our code of ethics dictate that PASOK should terminate its business relationship with Mr. Vallianatos", says PASOK's press release.
