1.7 PERCENT DEFLATION

The costs of living in Macedonia decreased by 1.7% percent in June 2009 compared with June 2008.
According to the data of the State Statistical Office, the costs of living in June compared against May 2009 saw an identical fall of 1.7% percent.
The 1.7% reduction of the living costs is mainly a result of the lowered prices indexes in vegetables by 36.0%, then eggs (3.4%), fresh milk and yoghurt and vegetable oils (0.9%), dairy products (0.7%), meat and meat products (0.5%), wheat products and processed and canned vegetables (0.4%) and fish (0.2%).
The consumer basket for food and non-alcoholic beverages per four-member household stood at 11.986 denars in June 2009, calculated on the basis of retail prices. The consumer basket is down 7.7 percent comparing to previous month, the Office said.
