"SHADOWS" OF MANCEVSKI AT BERLINALE

A new film by Macedonian director Milco Mancevski, “Shadows” will be presented to the world public at the Berlin Film Festival on 8-18 February.
The promotion of “Shadows” is organized by its world distributor, German Bavaria Film International. At Berlinale, one of the three largest festivals in the world, the film will be presented with the so-called industrial trailer, i.e. trailer made not for the movie theatre but for expert public and potential distributors.
According to Bavaria Director Torsten Ritter, “Shadows” is their trump card for this year and a film they are counting on most and distributors are eagerly expecting. “Shadows” is the first in the list of art films of Bavaria at the festival this year. It has already been sold for distribution to several countries owing to its director Mancevski’s name and reputation.
This presentation will include Berlin in the film portfolio although the film itself will not be shown within the festival. “Shadows” was shot in Skopje and throughout Macedonia last summer and is currently being edited in New York. It is a moving urban story the plot of which unfolds in modern Skopje. The film stars Macedonian young actors Borce Nacev and Vesna Stanojevska. Sabina Ajrula Tozija, Ratka Radmanovic, Dime Iliev, Petar Mircevski, Salaetin Bilal, Filareta Zdravkovic, Ana Kostovska, Zaklina Stefkovska also have parts.
The director of photography is far renowned Fabio Cianchetti, and the production designer is Oscar winning Davis Mans, Mancevski’s constant collaborator. A project ranking among those of the highest rank, “Shadows” is a European co-production of Macedonia with Italy, Spain, Germany and Bulgaria. Another confirmation of the “Shadows” rank is the maximum support the film has got by Euroimage European Co-production Fund.
