GUMBALL 3000 RALLY CAUSES ACCIDENT IN MACEDONIA

Two British citizens, who the eyewitnesses say had caused a deadly accident near Struga, are about to stay 30 days in temporary detention.
Ohrid resident Vladimir Cepuljoski (67) died of fatal injuries caused by the collision. His wife Margarita is still in critical condition and has been transferred to emergency clinic in Skopje.
Police sources say two British citizens - Nicholas Morley and Matthew Convell - were aboard a Porsche. Immediately after the collision, the two tried to escape into Albania with a BMW, but the Police stopped them at Kafasan border crossing after receiving a tip from a witness of the accident. Another UK citizen, identified as Matthew Convell, was aboard a Porsche along with Morley.
The tragic traffic accident occurred on the Struga-Qafasan road near KMR Petrol station. The Porsche, which was running with high speed, crossed over the center lane and crashed into Golf with Ohrid registration plates. Both cars skidded off the road. The local residents arrived at the crash site shortly afterwards. The injured passengers were rushed to nearest hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the Porsche was moving a convoy of another four luxury vehicles, all of them running with a high speed. They took part in the international car rally Gumball 3000. They entered Macedonia yesterday and were heading to Albania. Last week some drivers were arrested in Holland because of speeding, they lost their driving licenses and the Dutch justice department wants to ban such races.
The Gumball 3000 international contest is every year organized by personalities of the world jet set, by touring parts of the world in their exotic cars. Also many celebrities participate in the rally.
MD: Too bad people suffer from this 'game of the rich and famous'. Among the participants are said to be; Xzibit, Sharon Stone, P!nk, Jay Kay, Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton. The Gumball 3000 website says: "Macedonia was beautiful and very cool. Lots of people were out to see the Gumball and we added a couple of cars to our caravan".
Update I 04/05/07 08:58 : We just received a letter of the Gumball 3000 board, saying that this years rally has been canceled as a mark of respect to Vladimir Cepuljoski.
Update II 04/05/07 11:49 : Another two cars have been crashed, this time in Montenegro. A red Ford GT, because of high speeds and bad weather and another Porsche GT was also wrecked.
Update III 05/05/07 09:42 :Margarita Cepuljoska, the wife of Vladimir has past away in the Skopje hospital yesterday when her condition drastically worsened.
