LICENOSKI'S HOUSE TO BECOME MUSEUM
Culture.
The house of famous Macedonian painter Lazar Licenoski will be turned into a museum as part of the state-run National Gallery. The Licenoski family submitted the proposal to the PM's Cabinet and it should be adopted at Government's next session, following Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's visit to the house on Thursday.
The house, located in Skopje, along with over 100 of his paintings, dating back to the period between 1920/60, as well as mosaics, are donated to the state by the Licenoski family. In return, the state will invest in its decoration, reconstruction and adaptation into a museum.
This was a life-long wish of Lazar Licenoski, who dedicated his life to creating and painting.
PM Gruevski said the Government was excited about the proposal, adding that its realisation would give Macedonia paramount cultural value.
The house was built in 1960. Besides paintings, it also includes mosaics. His wife Zoe resided in the house unti 2006, when she was accommodated in a retirement home. Licenoski, who was born in 1901 and died in 1964, has no immediate heirs.
MD: Nice initiative!
