EU AND MACEDONIA TO SIGN VISA FACILITATION AGREEMENT
National.
European Union and Macedonia will sign on Tuesday visa facilitation and readmission agreements, which will make easier for Macedonian citizens to acquire EU visas.
Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska and the EU Security and Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini, including the Portuguese Interior Minister will sign the agreement in Brussels.
Similar agreements will be signed today by the interior ministers of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia.
The visa facilitation agreement has advantages for travelers from Macedonia in terms of low visa fee rates and speedier application procedures.
Document requirements will be simplified for certain groups of travelers, for example students, business people, journalists, participants in scientific and cultural activities and civil society representatives. It will be easier for such groups to get multiple entry visas; for certain categories of people, such as students and pensioners, visas will be issued
Document envisages free national visas for short stay of Macedonian citizens in Romania and Bulgaria - countries that don't issue visas as long as they become members of the Schengen system.
As reaffirmed in the joint declaration on the perspective of a mutual visa-free travel regime, annexed to the Agreement, visa facilitation is a first step towards visa-free travel of the Macedonian citizens to EU countries.
MD: Finally some improvement on the Visa issue!
