GORAN STEFANOVSKI AWARDED IN SLOVENIA

An award for best author in Central and Southeast Europe has been handed to Macedonian playwright and Academician Goran Stefanovski at the Vilenica International Literary Festival held in Slovenia on 5-9 September. An international jury composed of authors and literature scholars from several countries including Macedonian poetess Lidija Dimkovska. The explanation said that the award was conferred to the best in the Macedonian contemporary drama and one of the most powerful dramatic voices in Europe.
Stefanovski is the first Macedonian author to receive the prestigious award bestowed annually to authors in different literary environments. Since the establishment of the festival 20 years ago, Vilenica has been awarded to Milan Kundera, Peter Handke, Herbert Zbigniew, Slavko Mihalic, Adama Zagayevski and others.
Parts of Stefanovski’s plays “Proud Meat” and “The Black Hole” were performed in honour of the winner during the festival.
