UNESCO WILL NOT REMOVE OHRID FROM HERITAGE LIST
Culture.
The Paris-based World Heritage Committee didn't consider to remove Ohrid from the list of world heritage, UNESCO's representative said on Tuesday.
Kerstin Manz, a representative of the UNESCO's World Heritage Center, attended the opening of an international workshop in Ohrid, focusing on harmonization of Tentative Lists in South-Eastern European countries - cultural landscapes, land and water ecosystems.
Manz added that there were no discussions over the possibility to remove Ohrid from the list of properties declared to be of outstanding universal value in terms of UNESCO's World Heritage Convention.
Giorgio Andrian, a representative of the UNESCO Office in Venice, stressed that not only the national and local authorities but also the world should take care of Ohrid given the fact that the city has been declared a universal heritage.
Macedonian Environment Ministry official Dejan Panovski, said two other sites in Macedonia - Markovi Kuli near Prilep and Slatinski Izvor in the municipality of Makedonski Brod - have been added to the tentative lists since 2004.
The workshop, which brings together representatives of 11 countries of the region, aims to help the UNESCO member-states in the SEE region identify the most significant natural sites of universal importance.
MD: Thank god they didn't! Everything should be done to preserve this unique heritage.
