Culture.
Third feature film of filmmaker Milco Mancevski "Shadows" will have its world premiere wothin the special programme at the Toronto Film Festival on Sunday.
The film's shooting began in June last year at locations throughout Macedonia, while the editing process was completed in New York-based Goldcrest Production's studios.
The movie tells an urban story that takes place in modern Skopje and introduces young Macedonian actors Borce Necev and Vesna Stanojevska. The cast also includes Sabina Ajrula - Tozija, Ratka Radmanovic, Dime Iliev, Ana Kostovska etc.
"'Shadows' is a story that can be told in only one sentence - sometimes the dead speak louder than the living. It is a contemporary film i.e. the way we, as human beings, treat out community, our predecessors, the unborn and our moral obligations", stated Mancevski recently in an interview with the Voice of America- Macedonian program.
Almost half of the film's 4,5 million-budget was provided by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture, whereas other co-producers include Spain, Germany, Bulgaria and Italy. The rights for global distribution of "Shadows", backed by the European Co-production Fund EURIMAGES, are owned by "Bavaria Film".
In February 2007 the film was presented at the Berlin Film Festival with the so-called industrial trailer intended for the media and distributors.
Milco Mancevski won the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival in 1994 with his debut feature "Before The Rain". The Oscar-nominated film has won over 30 prestigious awards since. His second film feature "Dust" was the first and only Macedonian film that opened the Venice Film Festival.
MD: Mancevski was awarded in June with the title Honorary Ambassador of Culture by the Macedonian Government for his contribution in affirming Macedonian culture in the world.
