MACEDONIA TO START WITH SCOTLAND AND THE NETHERLANDS
Sports.
Macedonia will start the qualifiers for the football World Cup (WC) 2010 hosting the strongest opponents in the group - Scotland and Netherlands. This was the result of the meeting for setting the schedule of the qualifier games, held on Friday in Amsterdam.
The meeting was attended by representatives of all five teams that play in the qualification group 9: Macedonia, Netherlands, Scotland, Norway and Island. The qualifiers will start in 2008, and the first matches, on 6 September will be Macedonia-Scotland and Norway-Island.
Next opponent of Macedonia is Holland that will come to Skopje on 10 September next year. Macedonia will finish the qualifications in September 2009 with the match in Norway.
The president of the Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) Hari Haxhi-Risteski after the meeting said that the schedule for the matches is a result of compromises made by all five national teams.
For Macedonia, it is most important that we will meet Scotland and Netherlands in a time frame that leaves us most time for preparations, and with good start of the qualifying cycle, the motivation could be extremely high", FFM president said.
The schedule for the WC 2010 qualifier matches:
06.09.2008 Macedonia-Scotland
10.09.2008 Macedonia-Netherlands
15.10.2008 Island-Macedonia
01.04.2009 Netherlands-Macedonia
