FORMER MINISTER ACCUSED OF ABUSE OF OFFICE

The former minister for transport and communications, Xhemali Mehazi, was accused of unlawful sale of state land in Skopje to Serbian company Delta-M for 4,7 million Denars.
In June 2006, Mehazi signed the agreement with Delta-M for selling of the land in Karpos municipality with area of 4.699 square meters for 1.000 Denars per square meter, which the Police deems as breaking of the law, because before the direct agreement the ministry did not receive or verify any investment programme of the buyer.
After checking the company that had produced the investment programme of Delta-M, the Police established that the document was submitted to the ministry after nearly two weeks.
The Police pressed charges against Mehazi and four executives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications due to reasonable suspicion of committing criminal act, abuse of office.
