SKOPSKO KALE EXHIBITION

Culture.

An exhibition, “Skopje Fortress” that opened at the Museum of the City of Skopje late last year and presents the material excavated in the Kale (Skopje Fortress) archaeological site, has attracted public attention is still under way at the Museum. The head of the excavations, Dragi Mitrevski says he has mainly expected the interest shown by the citizens given the publicity of the Kale excavations and the nature of the show. “Archaeological exhibitions of this kind are rare and a very long time is necessary for their preparation, and we managed to present the results even when the digging was underway. Hence the public interest, in particular of visitors who simply wanted to learn something more about the Kale and its cultural and historical values. People obviously lacked such information.”

The show is a cross-section of what the Skopje Fortress offers as a cultural history, certainly to the level of excavation. All periods are represented with corresponding most representative occurrences, exposed in a way to be enough instructional and educational. What attracts attention at first glance when entering the showroom is the visual effect in presenting various materials through photographs, in cases and outside of them as well as texts whose contents speak of the characteristics of relevant periods the materials originate from and their specifics.
