150TH ANNIVERSARY OF TOWN CLOCK IN PRILEP

Culture.

Revealing a monument to the Macedonian legendary Itar Pejo during the opening of the Vojdan Cernodrinski Theatre Festival in Prilep will pay significant tribute to the Clock Tower, the unavoidable monument of culture in the 19th century on which it is inscribed: “Clock striking does not always strikes time. The clock grieves for the passing life and time and says - Alas!”

Regular geodetic measurement of the inclination of the clock will be made soon. The Ministry of Culture is responsible for that activity, and in that way the 150th anniversary of 38.76-meter Clock Tower will be marked.

“There is some movement on the vertical axis of the Clock Tower to the southeast. The first measurement was made in 1991 when movement on the vertical axis of 1.16 m was stated, and next year that movement into the same direction was 1.17 m. We are closely watching the situation and the Ministry of Culture has allotted new funds for measurement of inclination of the Clock Tower,” Vaska Pecijarevska of the National Museum and Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture – Prilep says.

The Clock Tower was constructed in 1858 by the famous Prilep mason Petre Lauco who had been involved in construction of about 50 churches and monasteries in Macedonia.
