RICE: MACEDONIA SHOULD JOIN NATO

The United States is confirming its support of the admittance of Macedonia, Croatia and Albania in NATO, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday in Brussels, where she attended a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
- We view Macedonia as a potential candidate that meets the criteria. I think it is a general position, at least for the US. They (the countries) have been working to that effect. They still have work to do by the Summit in Bucharest, but they are doing so and should join the Alliance, Rice said.
In regard to Greek-Macedonian name dispute, Rice said the US supported the efforts of UN mediator Matthew Nimetz.
- We hope that Greece and Macedonia will make a step forward, and with good will to settle the matter, Rice said.
