SCULPTURE COMPETITION

Culture.

The Ministry of Culture announced yesterday an open competition for installation of sculptures through Skopje, in initiative that is meeting positive response by sculptors and artists. The competition for conceptual solution entitles any sculptor in the country to apply with their conceptual solutions at their own choice of the topic.

Academic artist Resat Ameti, Deputy President of the Macedonian Artists' Association, says the idea to install sculptures is an extraordinary one, however, the selection should be paid special attention.

“The sculptures should express a realistic picture of Macedonia. They should not favour some local patriotism but should have humanist character. I think that, finally, we must not make sculptures that express aggressiveness, weapons etc. We should turn to humanism,” Ameti says, adding that any art institution in the country such as Macedonian Artists' Association, Faculty of Fine Art, Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts should be consulted in order not to make mistakes as it used to happen in the past – to get kitsch sculptures made to order or total distaste.

MD: Are you artistique, and full of ideas? You should compete!
