GREECE VIOLATES MINORITY RIGHTS
National.
The Greek League of Human Rights welcomed today the verdicts of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Greece in a case of violating the rights of Turkish minority.
The organization's reaction came after the two rulings that ECHR passed in late March, referring to violation of Article 11 of 'freedom of gathering and association.'
The verdicts are referring to two cases of Greek authorities' prohibition of associations that were defined as "Turkish" by the authorities themselves.
"The verdicts remind Greece that it has to respect the rights of its citizens on self-determination," said the President of the Greek League of Human Rights, Dimitris Christopoulos.
"Greece has been always turning the deaf ear. This practice has to change if it wants to stop piling one verdict over another, " Christopoulos said, reminding on the ruling against Greece in 2005 for failure to recognize the Macedonian association.
