LAUNCH OF ELECTION CAMPAIGN STARTED WITH INCIDENTS

National.

The start of campaigning for parliamentary elections in Macedonia, slated for June 1, was marred by incidents and violence.

Shooting incidents were reported in Tetovo-Gostivar area on Sunday, the first day of election campaign.

Incidents are serious challenge for conducting fair and democratic elections, pledged by all political parties. Representatives of the international community made clear that free and democratic elections are among key conditions for Macedonia's integration into Euro-Atlantic community.

A total of 1.779.116 citizens are entitled to vote in Macedonia's early parliamentary elections. The number of eligible voters grew for extra 37.667 comparing with previous elections.

The country called early elections after the opposition Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) tabled a motion for self-dissolution of parliament. The ruling VMRO-DPMNE and DPA backed the move.

The opposition parties remained adamantly opposed to snap polls, saying the elections will throw the country off EU and NATO track.

MD: Don't they ever learn to stop using violence?!!!!
