UNESCO will help Ohrid and the Macedonian Government in the protection of natural and cultural richness, as well as protection of cultural-historic monuments, said Thursday UNESCO and Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning representatives.
According to Director-General of the UNESCO Regional Bureau in Venice Engelbert Ruoss, the organization is interested in protection of cross-border water resources, especially underground waters, which should result in increased cooperation among Macedonia, Albania and Greece.
Ruoss reiterated that underground caves at Slatinski Izvori in Porecie region and Markovi Kuli near Prilep are already included in the UNESCO list for protection of cultural and natural richness.
Moreover, Ministry State Secretary Dejan Panovski informed that UNESCO would financially assist the Bilateral Committee for Ohrid Lake protection, and the town’s increased promotion.
