TEACHER'S STRIKE CONTINUES

National.

Education, Science and Culture Union (SONK) convened for a session late Tuesday, and decided to continue the nationwide strike

SONK leader Dojcin Cvetanovski said the extraordinary session was convoked due to government's pressure on teachers to quit the strike.

Among those attending the session were Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Stavreski, Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska and Education Minister Pero Stojanovski.

Deputy Prime Minister Stavreski told the unionists that the government cannot secure extra funds to increase the teachers' salaries amid global financial crisis already felt in Macedonia.

He added that the government is willing to uphold SONK's demands, but he made it clear that pay rise could take place in 2010.
