SKOPJE'S NEW CITY THEATRE

National.

With many actors, playwrights and directors in attendance, the Youth Cultural Center (MKC) announced Thursday the opening of the Skopje City Theater.

It is due to start functioning on Jan. 21 with a performance of the play "R", penned by Jordan Plevnes and directed by Dejan Projkovski. MKC director Boris Momirovski said the new theater institution will offer a different kind of theater to Skopje citizens. The goal is a fresh theater stage to be created that will promote unconventional theatre expression.

Director Projkovski said the Skopje City Theater is a new spiritual temple in our cultural space. - MKC continuously for 33 years is organising the Young Open Theater festival and is managing to convene the most avant-garde and bravest theater authors from all around the world, while affirming the Macedonian theater abroad in the best possible way, he stated.

Skopje mayor Trifun Kostovski noted that Skopje with its current dimensions deserves to have its own theater reflecting its everyday life.

The newly-established institution has already determined its repertoire for the coming session. In addition to "R", two other plays are in the works.
