A new digital library annexed to the St. Clement of Ohird National Library in Skopje was opened Sunday. The library, which takes up an area of 3.300 square meters, was funded by the Government with Denar 120 million.

It was opened by Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, while Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska, Education Minister Pero Stojanovski and Skopje mayor Koce Trajanovski were also in attendance at the opening ceremony.

- On the occasion of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Day, a decision was reached for opening the new building of the National Library. There, materials, books and manuscripts will be preserved adequately, said Gruevski.

He announced that millions of books and valuable works would be made available to Macedonian citizens with the library's connection to worldwide digital libraries.

It will preserve and present Macedonia's literary and cultural heritage.

Minister Kanceska-Milevska in her speech said the opening of the library was a project that would guarantee additional preservation and safety to the invaluable national literary treasure.

Director of the National Library Mile Bosevski at Sunday's ceremony presented a statue of St. Clement to PM Gruevski for his achievements in affirming the national literature, while Kanceska-Milevska was presented with a golden plaque.
