EU WILL BUILD RAILWAY BETWEEN MACEDONIA AND BULGARIA
The European Union will revive Corridor №8 and envisage funds for the railway between Bulgaria and Macedonia in its financial plans for the period 2010-2013, the Macedonian Utrinski Vesnik newspaper writes, citing the European Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot who answered a question by an MEP from the Green Party.
According to Commissioner Barrot the assistance the EU grants to Macedonia in the next two years will allot funds for Corridor №10 and then the railway will be topped as a priority, bacuse neither Bulgaria, nor Macedonia has so far asked for the funding, the newspaper adds.
Not long ago Macedonia and Bulgaria brought up the railway construction issue, which, according to the EU, needs half a billion of euros.
MD: The construction of the railway to Bulgaria started in the 1990s, but it was ceased in 2001. Because of that, the already built sections need to be repaired, and the EU will grant resources for this purpose, the newspaper notes.
