DELETROZ: IT'S TIME MACEDONIAN POLITICIANS DO SOMETHING
National.
Macedonia has the capacity to fulfill its obligations, but it's high time that the politicians listen to the ringing alarm and do something concrete, Alain Deletroz of the International Crisis Group (ICG) said.
In an interview with Radio Deutsche Welle, the ICG vice-president Deletroz made it clear that unless Macedonia meets the required criteria, Slovenia will not be able to make a push for launch of accession talks with the EU during its presidency of the EU next year.
"Its obvious that EU integration for Western Balkans will be high on the agenda of Slovenia's EU presidency, but meanwhile Macedonia has to show visible efforts and tangible results in reforms before the starting date is put on table," Deletroz said.
He said he was confident that there will be no setback in Macedonia's EU bid, and the country's accession into the EU will not be put in the same package with Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
Deletroz reiterated the position of the International Crisis Group (ICG) as regards name dispute with Greece, noting that Macedonia is entitled to use its name.
Asked to comment whether the outcome of the Kosovo status process could have an impact on the security in Macedonia and in the region, Deletroz warned of possible tension that could destabilize the region unless Kosovo's future status is resolved by the end of the year.
